Teachers in South Burlington walked the picket line earlier this week. The two sides reached an agreement on Saturday night to end the strike. School resumes on Monday.

South Burlington students will be back in school on Monday, after a deal was reached between the teachers’ union and the school board to end a strike.

The South Burlington Educators Association and the South Burlington School Board agreed on Friday to allow mediator Joseph McNeil to join in the session, which began on Saturday morning.

McNeil issued a statement just before 10:00 p.m. announcing the tentative agreement. He noted: “Until the association’s membership and the board ratifies the tentative agreement, they are unable to share any details as to the terms of the agreement. School will be open on Monday.”

Superintendent David Young has said the two sides were at odds over pay increases, as well as teachers' contributions to monthly health care premiums.

The teachers went on strike on Tuesday, and students have been out of school. Student activities and sports resumed on Friday.
